Grace CHANNER

Grace Channer is a painter and multi-media visual artist. In 1993, Dionne Brand directed a film, Long Time Comin' about Channer's work and the political context surrounding a black woman artist in the culture industry of Canada. By 1995 Channer had embarked in a new direction in her work. She was inspired by and engaged in a specific set of artistic and theoretical discourses that manifested in her multi-media installations and paintings. This led her to animation, a format that permitted interaction with a larger audience in an expanded political and artistic dialogue. She exhibited her first animated video installation work called Bat'hari "Biguum" in 2005, in the group show "The Hero Project." Channer received a Postgraduate Diploma in Animation Filmmaking from Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning.
