Kelly GALLAGHER

Kelly Gallagher is an animator and filmmaker living in the mid-west, originally from Philadelphia. While employing various styles of traditional animation technique (painting directly onto 16mm film, stop motion paper cut-out/collage, hand drawn rotoscoping), Kelly explores the more tangible and palpable aspects of animation filmmaking. Kelly utilizes these processes to make films about the politically radical topics she's interested in: overlooked histories and herstories of revolution, resistance, and struggles against exploitation, racism, patriarchy, capitalism, and colonialism. Her theoretical interests include: examining the revolutionary potential of film, the revolutionary praxis of radical filmmakers, and critique of Hollywood and the analysis of its role in cultural hegemony. In short, Kelly is interested in taking serious topics and morphing them into vibrant and accessible animations, as a means of bringing them to life, as crazily and colorfully as she possibly can.
