2015 Financial Report

The 27th festival took place from 29 October to 1 November at Espace Reuilly, for the same duration as the previous edition. A total of 58 films from 22 different countries were screened. Despite the absence of a long weekend, the festival welcomed 1,419 members, an increase of 14.3% compared to the previous edition. The share of reduced-rate memberships increased in number and proportion (31.1%) while that of support memberships decreased (-6%). This is probably explained by a carrying over on the participation in the "Le Pot Commun" collection. But many festival-goers have contributed to the "Solidarity Tickets" system, set up for the second year in order to allow access to screenings for those whose financial means are limited.

Cineffable 2015 Financial Report

The number of entries to screenings increased with a total of 4,528 (+13.4%) and the average number of entries per screening increased by 6.7%. The most popular screenings reflected the festival's diversity: the feature films Girltrash: All Night Long (568 spectators), The Foxy Merkins (448), and She's Beautiful When She's Angry, presented at the opening session, in conjunction with the musical performance of The Hungry Hearts (393), the series of short films Dessus sans dessous (411) and the feature-length documentaries Out in the Night (334) and Solar Mamas (273). The presentation of excerpts from Typhaine D.'s show during the showing Once upon a time..., the festival's foray into the world of live performance, was particularly appreciated by the spectators.

The art exhibit presented the works of two photographers and a painter who question, from various angles, the issue of lesbian visibility. Alongside the feminist and LGBT bookstore Violette and Co., three militant associations and the lesbian magazine Well well well held stands. The performers from Norway The Hungry Hearts were present throughout the festival, introducing us to their first CD and also performing in concert during the closing night. They even surprised us by making a short film that was both militant and full of humour, testimony to their enthusiasm for the festival. Despite the lack of space and the difficult layout of the place, the catering team delighted the festival-goers, many in the cafeteria, with their delicious dishes. Finally, as in the previous year, a room was rented in the neighboring cultural place Le Chantier to offer four debates and meetings on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, as well as a tantra initiation workshop for women.

Overall, expenditure has been maintained at the same level as in 2014 while revenue increased, resulting in a significant surplus. That's mainly due to collection, however the balance is achieved even without this contribution, the cumulative consequence of higher attendance and the slight increase in admission prices to screenings (+36.8% in receipts). The increased expenses relate to the catalog (20 more pages and larger print run in order to be distributed before the festival), and to a lesser extent communication and technical equipment. Translations and subtitling, done voluntarily, are always the subject of visibility exchanges with other festivals. The Until We Die party organized on October 17 at the Caves St Sabin with the collective Fuk the Name was a good operation to communicate to an audience not used of the festival. The profit generated by the evenings at Tango fell by 43% compared to 2014, due to the cancellation of the November evening (attacks) but also to an erosion of entries. The result of the cafeteria increased by 17% thanks to the increase in attendance associated with a readjustment of drink prices and better organization of supplies. Excluding collection costs, structural costs fell despite a slight increase in insurance premiums and of the rental of the storage unit.

In place of Printemps de Cineffable, the team developed Hors les murs activities in 2015 by organizing screenings open to all in partnership: four evenings at the 3W Kafé, one evening at the Bar'Ouf and a screening/debate at the Town Hall of the 3rd arrondissement with Paris 2018 and the Paris LGBT Center. The City of Paris renewed its operating grant of €4,000 and the city's Observatory for equality between women and men provided additional support in the form of covering the festival's organizational costs for an amount of the same order.

Focus on the "Pot commun": the crowdfunding call launched in September 2015 was a resounding success and generated €15,121 in donations, or €14,764 after deduction of costs, greatly exceeding our initial objective. This input made it possible to meet the significant pre-festival expenses and to reduce the cash advances of the team members accordingly. At the end of the financial year, we note that the collection has made it possible to reconstitute a reserve allowing us to consider the 28th edition and the future of the festival more calmly. This public appeal probably also played an important role in terms of communication, reinforcing the actions carried out in particular on the new electronic media (online trailer, Facebook, Twitter, etc.).

We warmly thank all the donors and all the festival-goers: your mobilization confirms what the festival has been since its creation, an event by lesbians for lesbians.
