PARIS INTERNATIONAL
LESBIAN & FEMINIST FILM FESTIVAL
Quand les lesbiennes se font du cinéma
The directors of the documentary Looking for Mama Cash will discuss their Foundation, which aims to fund projects by women throughout the world.
Following the screening of Out: The Making of a Revolutionary, a discussion will be held on minorities and armed struggles. Can France's minority groups unite to become viable actors in the current political context? What types of actions can be used to fight effectively?
The discussion on violence within the lesbian couple attracted almost 200 women last year. We therefore thought it would be worthwhile to have a new discussion on the topic this year, following the films Rancour by Karen Earl and Helpless Maiden Makes an 'I' Statement by Thirza Jean Cuthand. Nicole Bonnin, who has been organising workshops on lesbian violence since 1999, and Vanessa Watremez, a post-graduate studient on domestic violence, who has just returned from a stay with a Quebec group acting with domestic violence among lesbians, will participate in the discussion.
A collection of writings under the title, Attractions: Lesbians Fems, Lesbians Butches, published in June 2001, has raised a lot of interest. This discussion will look at issues such as the concept as butch and fem, transgression of the codes of "feminity" and "masculinity", the construction of our lesbian relations and identities, the contribution of various political analysis to these questions, and other aspects of this subject raised in the collection. Christine Lemoine and Ingrid Renard, coordinators of Attractions, will be present together with a number of contributors to the collection, which brought together over forty lesbians.
Following the screening of Amazones 2000, a discussion will be held on lesbian visibility with the film's director, Florence Fradelizi.
